Jamaica (and the Caribbean’s) relationship with neighbors in Venezuela has suffered some tremors in recent years, especially since President Nicolás Maduro tightened his authoritarian grip on that country since taking up office five years ago. Nevertheless, over the decades that relationship has been consistently warm and supportive.
Relations between Venezuela and the Organisation of American States (OAS), which just completed its annual meeting, have been pretty rocky, however. Bitter words have been spoken. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade have issued a statement correcting a local media report. Please see below.
